‘YK Centred’: Photography by Bob Wilson
About
If you’re a local, you will be familiar with Yellowknife’s downtown core. So familiar, you can look at the cityscape without really seeing it.
Photos in the ‘YK Centred’ exhibit encourage you to take another, longer look. Each building, now separated from its address, suddenly becomes strangely unfamiliar.
In his latest series, Bob Wilson captures the views of his neighborhood in precisely composed frames, times, and vantage points. His work challenges us to cross the street and look back. It de-centres us, so to speak, allowing us to see our city’s eccentric core with the fresh eyes of a tourist.
This is our built environment; we don’t often notice it when we are walking by, but I think it’s worthy of reflection – Bob Wilson
