Travelling Exhibit! Fish for Sale

About

Travelling exhibit alert! Fish for Sale: A History of Commercial Fishing on Great Slave Lake at the PWNHC is coming to Dettah and will be at the Xat’ǫ̀ (Fall) Gathering August 22-23, 2026.

The travelling version of Fish for Sale is an interactive exhibit housed in a re-purposed skid shack (fishing caboose). It will travel to select communities in the North Slave and South Slave regions beginning in August before it finally weighs anchor at the Hay River Heritage Centre as a permanent exhibit.

Get caught up in the fascinating fishing tales, see a replica of the lake's biggest whitefish and meet famous fishers from yesterday and today, all contained in a 10x16 foot box!

The exhibit includes fishing-related programming and a pre-recorded audio guided tour (scan the QR code at the bottom of this page) of the Caboose/mini-museum. Look for the bright blue skid shack coming to a community near you!
