Canadian Natural History Museum Network launches “Museums’ Choice: fossil favourites from across Canada” marking Canada’s 150th
September 28th, 2017
The Alliance of Natural History Museums of Canada (ANHMC) in partnership with the Canadian Museum of Nature (CMN) and the Royal British Columbia Museum (Royal BC Museum) have collaborated to produce a nationally travelling Fossils Exhibition.
The exhibition will be presented at ANHMC member museums across Canada over a three year period. The exhibition features some of the network’s most impressive, famous and significant fossils or replicas, and are from the various fossil regions in Canada. The Royal BC Museum has been responsible for the design and construction of the exhibition and the CMN will be responsible for the scheduling and touring of the exhibition.
“This ANHMC project is one of several the network has participated in for 2017. Museums’ Choice is uniquely our own and inspired by Canada’s natural history collections. This is the first time that Canadian museums of natural history have joined forces to exhibit their favourite fossils. We expect that this initiative will encourage more collaborations in the coming years,” said Ailsa Barry, President of the ANHMC and Vice-President, Experience and Engagement, Canadian Museum of Nature.
“We are excited to see the exhibition launch at the Royal BC Museum. Developing nationally travelling exhibitions is something the museum has done many times before, but this is the first time we have coordinated a cross-country representation in an exhibition,” stated Kelly Sendall, Vice-President of the ANHMC and Head of Collections Care & Conservation at the RBCM. “It was a great way to connect and work with ANHMC museums across Canada and we are very pleased with the great response from members for this collaboration.”
