Rakekée Gok’é Godı: Places We Take Care Of
Created by the Sahtu Dene and Métis Comprehensive Land Claim (1994), the Sahtu Heritage Places and Sites Joint Working Group was charged with the responsibility of making recommendations on options for commemoration and protection of heritage sites in the Sahtu region. With representation from the Dene and Métis residents of the region, and from the territorial and federal governments, the Working Group deliberated for nearly five years before submitting its report in January 2000 to the Sahtu leadership, and to territorial and federal ministers. The report contains recommendations for 40 heritage sites, or groupings of sites, as well as recommendations on how to ensure that future heritage research should be continued and managed.
