MGM Energy Corp. Summer Field Assessment and Advance Barging and Staging Project: 2008-2011
Alan Youell (NWT Archaeologist’s Permit 2008-004)
Field work was confined to Ellice Island, Langley Island and the Arvoknar Channel shoreline. The survey included 13 well pad locations, 5 access routes, 2 barge landing locations (one with associated camp and airstrip area) and an onshore storage area. The environment of these locations ranged from wetland to storm surge killed willow flats. This area is very dynamic with seasonal flooding and modification of bank areas. Shovel testing was consistent with this as the majority of soil profiles consisted of wet silt, some even filling with water as they were being dug. These areas of wet, dynamic geography proved to be of low archaeological potential; no previously unrecorded sites were found.
