This is one of a series of concerts presented on the last Sunday of every month, from September to June. Join the Yellowknives Dene First Nation (YKDFN), the City of Yellowknife, and Government of the Northwest Territories as we open the week’s events and honour the land of the Yellowknives Dene, Chief Drygeese Traditional Territory. Emcee Lawrence Nayally will guide us through the afternoon as we open with a traditional prayer song and dance and hear about the legends behind Naka. Naka Festival: Concepts of Aurora Photography

Along with the thrill of experiencing the Aurora comes the reward of making your own really good photograph of Nature’s Greatest Light Show.   The City of Yellowknife is pleased to host an aurora photo workshop, led by Yellowknife photographer, author and tour guide Bill Braden. Dr. José Francisco Salgado is an astronomer, experimental photographer, and public speaker who creates multimedia works that communicate science in engaging ways. Naka Festival: Aurora Art Workshop and Dene Art Demos

March 7, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Make your own aurora art! Using simple block-printing techniques, create an image of your choice to remember your Yellowknife experience. This fun activity is easy for any age, and can be simple or complex. Recommended time 1-2 hours to create, carve and print your block, with help from local artists. This free-of-charge drop-in workshop will be held Thursday, March 7th from 3 to 6pm at the Prince of Wales Northern  Heritage Centre
