Archaeological Fieldwork Reports for 2007
Nineteen archaeological research permits were issued to 11 archaeologists for work in the NWT in 2007. Of these, four were cancelled at the request of the permit holder and no work was conducted. Of the 15 permits remaining, 10 were for projects related to resource development impact assessment and 5 were part of ongoing traditional knowledge projects. Oil and gas development in the Mackenzie Delta, the path of the proposed Mackenzie Valley pipeline route, exploration in the Sahtu region, and ongoing diamond exploration in the region north and east of Yellowknife continue to be dominant factors in driving archaeological research in the NWT.
