Program Guidelines

In accordance with the principles outlined in the Government of the Northwest Territories Cultural Contributions Policy, financial assistance is provided to individuals and organizations actively involved in the creation, preservation, promotion and enhancement of the arts, cultures, heritage and languages of the Northwest Territories. The Community Programs Office administers the following funding programs:

Core Funding Contributions for the Operation of Registered Heritage Centres

Core-funding contributions are made towards the operations of Registered Heritage Centres to organizations included in the Registry of Heritage Centres. This Registry has been designed to include community-based museums, archives and similar heritage facilities.

Cultural Organizations Contributions

This program provides core-funding contributions towards the administration and operation of organizations that undertake the promotion and development of the arts and cultural diversity in the Northwest Territories

Cultural Projects Contributions

Financial assistance is provided for the promotion and preservation of cultural identity and the enhancement of traditional cultures in the NWT, and to ensure that Northwest Territories oral traditions continue to be recorded by funding specific oral traditions projects.

NWT Arts Council Contributions

NWT Arts Council Contributions support and encourage the continued development of creative artistic projects in the visual, literary, new media and performing arts in the NWT. The NWT Arts Council recommends approval for organizations or individuals requesting funds for artistic work on a project-specific basis only.

Support to Northern Performers

Financial contributions are provided towards development and promotion of performing arts in the Northwest Territories and for the featuring of Northwest Territories performing artists at local and regional public festivals and events.
